Three from the first lines of Lawrence Ferlinghetti/Mark Young

In a dream within a dream

The violins tended to shriek
A clamor of gulls

Night's black mirror is broken
In the lower left-hand corner

Empty house on a horizon
The lovers under the portico

Watching baseball

She came in out of the night
Driving a cardboard automobile without a license

A native-born New Yorker
Wearing Appollinaire's derby

Looking into the windows at Macy's
The poet's eye obscenely seeing

How fragile the flesh

In an old black and white photo
The leaves danced to Mozart

Her voice was full of Yes
He made the usual fool of himself

The dance of the mind
Day after day returning
